This report is part of a series of multistakeholder projects aimed at catalysing action on key global challenges. The unprecedented frequency and costs of natural disasters and the projected increase of their severity due to climate change are posing significant economic challenges and new risks for vulnerable populations. New approaches and investments aimed at building resilience to natural
disasters are required by all actors to help stem future losses. New frameworks for cooperation are emerging and the financial savings from such investments in resilience promise to be significant.

World's Top Scientists to Scrutinize Intergovernmental Panel on climate change

 New York: A multinational organization of the world's science academies will conduct an independent review of processes and procedures used by the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change to arrive at its reports on the science of climate change, UN and IPCC officials announced today.

The InterAcademy Council will select an expert panel to examine every aspect of how the IPCC's reports are prepared, including the use of non-peer reviewed literature and the reflection of diverse viewpoints.

London’s position as the dominant world financial centre for the £75 billion carbon market could be lost to New York after the adoption of the US-brokered Copenhagen Accord at UN climate talks last week.

Despite criticism that an agreement struck by the US, China, India, South Africa and Brazil was too weak to tackle climate change, it is still expected to pave the way for the introduction of proposed US cap-and-trade legislation next year, which will accelerate huge growth in the global carbon market.
