With a talent pool of about 25,000 employee globally, the Group has a clear focus on achieving and sustaining global leadership in the non ferrous metal business. Hindustan Zinc Limited (HZL), the operating company of Vedanta in Zinc and Lead business, is now poised to further expand Zinc Mining and Smelting capacity to achieve global leadership. In 2006-07, HZL reported record Revenues and profit on account of higher production, improved efficiency and robust LME prices. Revenues grew by 120% to Rs. 8560 Crores (INR) and profit after tax by 202% to Rs. 4442 Crore (INR). HZL believes in sustainable development in harmony with nature and accordingly, is committed for protection of its surrounding environment. Towards Climate change, HZL has embarked on various measures to reduce greenhouse gas emission. Waste Heat Recovery based Power Generation Project at Chanderiya Lead Zinc Smelter has been registered at UNFCCC. [Ref. No. 0855]. HZL has set up Wind Energy Farms (38.4 MW in March 2007) and further 110.4 MW is under implementation.
