India CDM pipeline February report

In February, 745,989 CERs (approx US$11.3m) were issued to projects in India which came from 7 projects, 6 new projects were registered and 99 new projects were submitted for prior consideration.

The newer submitters clearly seems to be of the view that the European ETS market is the one that will take up the slack post 2012.

Analysis

The four stages at which data has been captured form the continuum in the CDM process. The first two stages are leading indicators, and the last two provide information on credits that have been issued (or likely to be issued).

Leading Indicator 1: Submitted for Prior Consideration
A total of 215 projects were submitted for prior consideration of the CDM in February. Of these 99 were from India (or 46% of the global total).

Leading Indicator 2: Those Requesting Registration are Smaller Projects
Most of the projects requesting registration from India continue to be smaller energy projects. A representative sample from the last month are listed in the table below.

Reference Project
3115 17.6 MW captive grid connected electricity generation from wind energy project by Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited.
3020 GHG Emission Reductions through grid connected high efficiency power generation
3083 20 MW biomass based power project in Maharashtra, India
2965 5 MW Debal Grid-connected Hydroelectric Project in Uttaranchal, India
3035 14.1 MW grid connected wind energy project in Tamilnadu by ITC Limited
2937 2 X 3.5 MW Ullunkal Hydro Power Project in Kerala, India.

Projects Registered

6 CDM projects were registered in India last month with a potential of generating 334K CERs annually. This compares to a total of 25 globally which have a potential of generating 3.1 million CERs annually. This continues to follow from the leading indicators where the projects from India tending to be smaller in size.

bogatidinesh says:

Only the effort of the government is not enough to reduce excessive use of energy. There should be remarkable contribution by the people. Each and every single person is responsible for using maximum amount of energy. We can help to reduce cost of electricity by using advance sorts of appliances like Crawl Space Dehumidifier, which is proven to be effective in minimizing the load of electricity. If we use such kinds of appliances definitely, there will be noticeable change in every aspect.
