State to give priority to green projectsThe state government has decided to put its weight behind green and environment-friendly industrial projects, and such projects will be given preference in terms of expedited clearance and other non-financial benefits. Himachal Pradesh to be the 1st state to become carbon-neutral by 2020: DhumalHimachal Pradesh would be the first state in the country to become carbon neutral by 2020 by undertaking "carbon smart growth", Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal claimed here today. "The carbon footprint per capita in Himachal Pradesh has been assessed at 1.4 tonne per capita in comparison to national average of 1.57 tonnes per capita," Dhumal said while speaking at 12th Delhi Sustainable Development Summit. Kyoto Protocol should be sincerely followed: IndiaIndia today asked all countries to "adhere and sincerely follow" the Kyoto Protocol which recognises principles of common but differentiated responsibility in dealing with the challenge of climate change. Allianz, C-Quest Capital launch India carbon projectGerman insurer Allianz SE and U.S.-based C-Quest Capital LCC said on Tuesday they will finance the installation of about 8.5 million energy-efficient lightbulbs in India in return for U.N.-backed carbon offsets. The 10-year project will fund the installation of compact fluorescent lightbulbs in Punjab, Andhra Pradesh and northern Delhi, Armin Sandhoevel, chief executive of Allianz Climate Solutions, told Reuters in Singapore.
