From green concerts to kiosks to calculating the carbon footprints that you leave behind in your everyday life - the organising committee is going all out to ensure that common citizens become a part of its Green Games campaign.

On Thursday, the OC flagged off the Low Carbon Campaign for the Commonwealth Games 2010 in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). Helping the OC put together the initiative was Global Environment Facility, an international organisation.

The project aims to develop and promote Low Carbon Campaign for the Commonwealth Games 2010, as a way of inducing behavioural change amongst the citizens, athletes and visitors during the Games. The adoption of these green practices would go a long way towards reducing not only the CWG 2010 carbon footprint but also the city's.

As part of the initiative, a host of programmes have been scheduled. Like green music concerts, low-carbon fairs, plantation drive along the Queen's Baton drive, as well as developing public service messages, Shera pop-ups, radio messages on environmental and energy issues linking low-carbon practices with sports and sportsmen spirit.

A series of activities in Delhi and NCR has also been planned, which include campaigns on waste and transport, setting up 20 carbon kiosks and carbon footprint calculators, etc. In addition, Global Environment Fund through its small grants programme for NGOs and CBOs is encouraging citizens to enjoy and adopt the spirit of green sports through plantation activities and trainings in schools.

The other project partners include the Union ministry of environment and forests, Union ministry of new and renewable energy sources, Bureau of Energy Efficiency, department of environment, government of NCT Delhi, Centre for Media Studies and Centre for Environment Education.
